This optical illusion dish has been made by covering a square of clear glass with lots of 1mm glass rods called stringers and then arranging stacks of clear glass on top before fusing in the kiln. As the glass melts it distorts the straight stringers and creates this amazing optical illusion effect.

After the first fuse the piece has then been slumped into a dish shape using a ceramic mould.

Measuring approximately 8.5 cm square and with a depth of around 1.5cm, this dish would be ideal for small pieces of jewellery. It would also work well as a small soap dish or for holding used teabags, avoiding those annoying drips of tea when getting the teabag from your cup to the bin!
