Mosaic bird plant buddy made using stained glass.

The base has been cut from a laminated wood block. The glass has then been hand cut, an eye painted onto a small piece of white glass and a freeze and fuse sunflower added to the wing. The pieces have then been heated in the kiln to a temperate of around 740 degrees Celsius in order to produce smooth rounded edges to each piece of glass, fix the enamel paint and fuse the flower in place.

The pieces have then been glued to the base before grouting. Fused glass ‘nuggets’ also add extra detail.

The sides and back of the laminate block have been painted black and a small hole drilled into it in order to place the bird onto a ‘rod’ made from recycling an old knitting needle.

The bird measures approximately 6.5cm by 4.5cm and is approximately 1.5cm thick. The overall item is approximately 20-22cm.
